The Real Madrid legend was visibly emotional on his final home game in the Spanish capital. Kroos completed a lap of honour at the end of Los Blancos' 0-0 draw with Real Betis and was thrown into the air by his team-mates. Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the match, the 34-year-old said: "It's not easy, I can only say thanks to Real Madrid fans, to the club, to my teammates, to the stadium… I have always felt at home in these ten years, I couldn't ask for more, it has been ten unforgettable years. You come away with a different feeling, you know that it is the last game. I was strong until I saw my children, that killed me.
"I want to enjoy it as much as possible and I have really enjoyed these 85 minutes as I have always enjoyed playing here. You play here every two weeks, but you notice that it is special, what. I'm going to notice in the years to come that it was special."

There is no doubt that Kroos could continue playing at the top level and he was offered an extension with the La Liga champions. But the German international has always said he would like to go out at the top and there are few major trophies he has not won during his time as a player that would make him carry on.
