Manchester United have used Romelu Lukaku’s connections to make contact with Anderlecht midfielder Eliot Matazo, according to Dutch publication Voetbalkrant.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, United are among numerous clubs making plans behind the scenes.

Manager Jose Mourinho is likely to be looking at players who he believes could strengthen the first team, but it seems that he is also considering youth.

Voetbalkrant reports that scouts in Belgium have pointed out Matazo’s talent to the Red Devils and now the Premier League giants are keen to learn more about the Under-16 captain.

The publication claims that Lukaku’s family have helped move things along due to the relationship that they have with Anderlecht.

The United striker spent five years at the club before joining Chelsea in 2011.

Do United have a chance?

From the sounds of it, the youngster has attracted attention from numerous clubs around Europe.

Voetbalkrant claims that Manchester City are monitoring the midfielder, while Borussia Dortmund and Schalke are also said to be interested.

Anderlecht are said to be keen for the 15-year-old to sign a contract when he turns 16 in February, but they may struggle to keep him if other clubs turn his head.

Lukaku’s relationship with the Belgian outfit will only help United’s pursuit, and the emergence of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard will show that there is a route to the first team at Old Trafford.
