Newcastle are looking for their third consecutive Premier League victory against Burnley at the weekend.
The Magpies finally recorded their first win of the Premier League season against Watford and a brace from Salomon Rondon secured back-to-back victories against Bournemouth before the international break. The results will give Rafael Benitez hope that he can steer the club away from danger during the busy festive period. Fans will be hopeful of taking advantage of fellow strugglers Burnley at the weekend.
Newcastle fans will be buoyed by the latest set of reports which suggest that owner Mike Ashley will make funds available to strengthen the squad in January. Benitez was given limited funds in the summer, and the lack of investment has been clear to see. Should the former Liverpool boss be backed financially, he must target attacking reinforcements.
One man he should be watching is Guingamp forward – Marcus Thuram. Valued at £2.7m by Transfermarkt, son of legendary French defender Lillian, the forward is starting to make a name for himself in Ligue 1. Able to play right across the forward line, Thuram has been in fine form during his breakthrough season, netting five league goals already in the new campaign.
A quick and powerful forward – the France U20 international would be a nightmare for Premier League defences. As well as his speed and power, the 21-year-old’s dribbling is his best asset, his unpredictable and skillset cause constant headaches for opponents. Incredibly, Thuram has averaged 3.1 successful dribbles per game this season – more than anyone in the Premier League this season (WhoScored).
If he can maintain his current upward curve, Thuram is set to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a footballing great.
Newcastle fans, thoughts?
