After the game had finished, Nunez was among those seen climbing into the crowd to confront Colombian supporters. He was caught up in a fight between players, officials and supporters – with the 25-year-old forward being caught by one punch.
WHAT GIMENEZ SAID
Uruguay captain Jose Maria Gimenez told reporters that players took decisive action after seeing friends and family that had been sat behind the team benches targeted by opposition supporters. He said, when calling out the lack of security at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte: “It was a disaster; there was no police and we had to defend our families. This is because of two or three who have one drink too many. A certain sector of the Colombian fans made an avalanche where our loved ones were.”
