Blackburn Rovers have parted company with temperamental striker El Hadji Diouf, with the African attacker being released on a free transfer from the Premier League side.
The 30-year-old Senegalese forward spent last season on loan at Scottish champions Rangers, and has played for Liverpool, Bolton and Sunderland in the Premier League since moving to England in 2002.
“Dioufy has left the club. I think we reached a mutual consent termination of his contract last night. He will be moving on to pastures new and we wish him all the best,” Rovers boss Steve Kean confirmed.
Diouf has never been far from controversy, and was banned from all football activity in Africa for five years after criticising the continent’s running of the game.
The forward has also been accused of spitting at fellow players and fans, with the most memorable incident whilst he played for Liverpool, and spat at Celtic fans in a European fixture.
